Intro to Soundscapes: Harnessing Sound for Relaxation

  • Seattle Bouldering Project Poplar 900 Poplar Place South Seattle, WA, 98144 United States (map)

In this intimate 90-minute hybrid seminar and interactive workshop, we’ll examine the properties of sound and its vast therapeutic potential to relax the body and mind. Anyone who is curious about the effect of sound and how to leverage it for personal wellness is welcome.

We will:

-Consider the soundscapes that surround us externally as well as the powerful resonant chambers we carry within our own bodies.

-Explore how sound waves are generated and how the resulting vibrations affect not only physical body tissues but also mental/emotional state.

-Experience and reflect on the effect of different audio frequencies and cadences, including binaural beats played live with crystal alchemy singing bowls.

Sound is vibration, and vibration is one of the most universal and accessible tools we have as humans to connect to ourselves, to each other, and to our environment. This class is designed to awaken or enhance each individual’s personal sonic experience, offering participants a more nuanced understanding of sound as an invaluable tool for relaxation, restoration, and improved daily physical and mental performance.

No previous knowledge or experience necessary. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle. Pen and paper optional for those who like taking notes. Individuals of all backgrounds, identities and lifestyle preferences are welcome to participate.

Space is extremely limited, registration required for all. This workshop is free for SBP members and punch card holders to attend, and you must register in advance to reserve your spot. If you’re not a member of SBP, you are still entirely welcome! Just grab access to the facility first before reserving your spot: options for 1-month prepaid, punch card or day passes are here. All memberships and day passes get full access to all SBP gyms, including bouldering and training terrain, fitness amenities, sauna at Poplar (and coming soon at UDist!), and the regular rotation of yoga and fitness classes.
